Lugari subdistrict is located in Kakamega County in Western Kenya. The main economic activity of the area is subsistence farming. Kakamega County has been classified as one of the poorest counties in the country according to the latest poverty index released by the national government. Because of high levels of poverty in the area, there are many destitute families who cannot meet the basic needs of their children and many children are also orphaned due to passing away of one or both parents.

Treasure Academy was conceived in order to help meet the educational needs of the needy children who are totally or partially orphaned. The school provides an opportunity for the children to learn and also provides a place to stay for those children that do not have any place to stay during the holidays. Ever since it was established, we have seen an increase in the number of children that want to access quality education.

The facilities existing in the school are overstretched and worn out; there is also a need to provide a reliable water supply for the children and the surrounding community. Our goal is to create a peaceful and conducive environment for the destitute children to learn and obtain an education that that will enable them better their lives and future, thereby making a positive contribution to society. We ensure that the children from orphans to poor families are not denied an opportunity to get a good education that will enable them to better their lives, those of their families, and the community in general. These will result in a more peaceful and cohesive society.
